Spring cleaning! A time we all know well. Aside from the typical chore list, here are some tips that will improve the flow of your home and lift your spirits.

Clear the Clutter

Now is the time to purge your wardrobe and your home of all the items that drag you down and fill your valuable space. Purging has been a highlight of 2020 and as a result, we have shows on Netflix like Get Organized with Home Edit and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. Dive in, more space is always better.

Store away winter clothes and free up your coat hooks to help your entryway feel larger (or at the very least create room for your raincoat when April showers arrive).

Use stylish storage vessels to house your odds-and-ends without stuffing them in a closet never to been seen again.

Swap out your seasonal scents

Swap out hand soaps, room sprays, and candles. We all love a good pumpkin, roasted marshmallow, or pine-scented candle, but these scents can begin to feel out of place and leave guests confused when the temperature sneaks above 60. Select light, airy aromas—like fresh cotton—or spring for floral scents. Just adding these fresh smells will brighten your mood.

Speaking of floral scents…

Bring in fresh florals

Brighten your cocktail table, nightstands, and your most-used dining top with flowers. These can be clippings from your blooming garden, stems from a high-end grocer, or a real treat from your local florist!

Nothing says spring like a vase full of light pink roses. If you’re already yearning for summer, sunflowers will be your best accessory.

Clean up your windows

You’ll want to look out of them! Clean the glass but also the blinds, shades or shutters, and any drapery or fabric around your windows. Some drapes may need an occasional dry cleaning, but a simple swipe of a handheld vacuum will often do the trick.

You have enough allergens to worry about with pollen on the rise; make sure your home is dust free, starting with your windows. Dust can’t hide in the light of spring!

Freshen up your front door and porch

Give your porch or front stoop a quick clean. Then add back some color with a floral wreath and a new doormat. Consider both these items a yearly purchase as the colors of each will fade through this season of warm sun.

Capitalize on the mild days of spring by sweeping your porch before kicking back in your rocking chair with an ice-cold drink.
